Watch the Falcon Wing Doors Operate On Tesla Model X

Watch the Falcon Wing Doors Operate On Tesla Model X An amateur record uploaded to YouTube has given us a new look at the Tesla Model X falcon wing doors in action.
The Tesla Model X is the automaker’s third vehicle and will officially launch on Tuesday at an event held in Fremont, Calif. One of the most unique features of the Model X will be its falcon wing doors, which open vertically, nearly like gull-wing doors. The variation is that the falcon wings are double hinged, so they don’t swing out to the side of the vehicle.
In the record, we can see one of the falcon wing doors opening and finishing, though this test mule requires the driver to hop out and end finishing the door.
This month, Tesla invited Model X Signature Edition buyers to configure their cars, which start at $133,200. These models include the 90-kWh battery with the electric motors providing 503 horsepower to all four wheels, giving the Model X a zero-to-60 time of 3.8 seconds. Pricing and power details on other models has not yet been revealed.
Check back tomorrow for more info on the Model X launch event which will likely include details on the new all-electric crossover. Read more

German Tuner Mansory Offers Surprisingly Subtle Model S Upgrades

German Tuner Mansory Offers Surprisingly Subtle Model S Upgrades Mansory has revealed its version of the Tesla Model S and surprisingly it’s not that idiotic.
The Germany-based tuner is well known worldwide for its aggressive creations, but with the Tesla Model S, Mansory chose to take a different approach. Using ultra-light carbon fiber, Mansory has outfitted the Model S with a newly designed adjoin apron with integrated LED daytime in succession lights, side skirts, a rear spoiler lip and a rear apron with diffuser insert.
“Nothing looks pretentious or ostentatious,” Mansory said, though we’ll note the new look puts the finishing touch on making the EV look indistinguishable from an ICE.
The Model S deliberately blocks off the adjoin end because air intake is not needed for a radiator. This vehicle looks like it could just as well have a supercharged V8 under the hood. Read more

Chinese Carmaker’s Electric Sedan Looks Like A Tesla Replica

Chinese Carmaker’s Electric Sedan Looks Like A Tesla Replica If imitation is the best form of flattery, then Tesla Motors should be pleased when it sees the new electric sedan from Chinese-carmaker Youxia Motors.
But it’s doubtful that Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, will see the new Youxia X as a compliment. This new sedan goes beyond being a just a battery-electric competitor, with an appearance that closely copies Tesla’s Model S.
The side profile, the similarly-shaped adjoin “grille” and the tablet-sized infotainment screen positioned in the middle of the console on the Youxia X are nearly rigorous matches to the Model S. Even the exterior handles recess into the doors, like on the Model S, and the carmaker’s logo on the adjoin of the grille appears very Tesla-esque.

The Tesla Model S.
Youxia’s performance claims will also sound familiar, with statements this electric sedan can go from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds. Tesla just released an upgrade for its high-performance Model S P85D, which engages “Ludicrous Mode” to run a sprint in the rigorous amount of time.
The P85D achieves this supercar performance with two motors: a 259 horsepower motor in the adjoin and a 503 horsepower motor in the rear. But, the one electric motor powering the Youxia X peaks at 270 kilowatts (362 horsepower).
Also similar to the Model S are the three different battery options available: a 40 kilowatt-hours pack offering 137-mile range, 60 kwh with 205 miles or the 85 kwh pack for 286 miles. On its website, Youxia said its battery’s chip sampling rate is eight times better than both the Tesla and BMW i3.
The Youxia X does have a few features that distinguish it from the Model S. While Tesla uses its own proprietary in commission system, Youxia’s software is based on Google Android 5.0, which is supposed to be compatible with Android and Apple phones.
And the adjoin end features a programmable show, allowing drivers to change from the carmaker’s logo to a Knight Rider-style light show or any other design (including the Batman logo, as suggested by Youxia).

Tesla wasn’t the only carmaker that Youxia copied for this electric sedan. If drivers want to supplement the sound, the Youxia X can imitate any number of sports cars. Lamborghini, Porsche, the Ferrari 488 GTB and the Jaguar F-Type are listed as some of the sound options.
Production of the Youxia X is scheduled to start at the end of 2016 – in this area six months earlier than the Tesla’s economy-priced Model 3 – with pricing estimated to fall between $32,000 and $48,000.

BMW Tests Plug-in Hybrid 2 Series Active Tourer

BMW Tests Plug-in Hybrid 2 Series Active Tourer BMW has previewed its plug-in hybrid technology.
As part of the BMW Assemble Innovation Days 2015, the German automaker showed off the 2 Series Active Tourer Plug-in Hybrid concept, which has the adjoin wheels driven by a three-cylinder gasoline engine while an electric motor drives the rear wheels. If that sounds vaguely familiar, that’s because the BMW i8 employs a similar powertrain layout, albeit reversed. Still, that means the 2 Series Active Tourer Plug-in Hybrid has road-linked all-wheel drive and shows how versatile BMW’s eDrive technology is.
The company confirmed that its first production plug-in hybrid model will be the BMW X5 xDrive40e, which will be followed by the 3 Series with plug-in hybrid technology and more models to come in the future.
As for the 2 Series Active Tourer Plug-in Hybrid concept, the 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine generates 136 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque mated to a six-speed Steptronic transmission. The electric motor is mounted behind the rear axle and sends up to 88 hp and 122 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels. The result is a 0-62 mph time of around 6.5 seconds and gets an all-electric range of 38 km (23.6 miles) on the EU test cycle.
The German automaker confirmed the 2 Series Active Tourer Plug-in Hybrid will head to production, although pricing has not yet been determined. It did say that “prices at launch will be in the range of existing engine variants with comparable power outputs – just as they are for the electrified versions of the BMW X5 and BMW 3 Series.”

California Raises Green Car Rebates For Low-Income Buyers, Cuts Off Top Earners

California Raises Green Car Rebates For Low-Income Buyers, Cuts Off Top Earners Yesterday the California Air Resources Board (ARB) voted to increase state rebates to as high as $4,000 for plug-in electrified vehicles and $6,500 for fuel cell vehicles to better subsidize low-income earners, while also setting a limit on the highest earners.
Those in a middle income range will see no changes to state rebates enabling $2,500 for buyers of all-electric vehicles, $1,500 for plug-in hybrid buyers, and $5,000 for fuel cell vehicle purchasers.
The Robin Hood-like gesture followed SB1275, legislation from last year by state Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de León requiring the board to set income-level limitations for those receiving this state-level perk over and above federal tax credit eligibility.
The choice is a response to complaints that rebates – such as the present $2,500 discount for buyers of all-electric cars like the Nissan Leaf and Tesla Model S – was subsidizing the wealthy and doing nothing for those less fortunate.
ARB’s vote is effectively a $1,500 increase crosswise the program for low-income folks. It raise a $2,500 EV discount to $4,000, a $1,500 PHEV discount to $3,000, and a $5,000 FCV credit to $6,500.
What defines low income or upper income?
Low-income qualifications can be met by those earning 300-percent of the federal poverty level. For a family of four, this is capped at $73,000 reports the San Francisco Tale. For an individual, it is $48,000.
Whether the extra $1,500 will help increase sales is being questioned.
The middle ground of those who make more and who are still eligible for the $2,500 EV credit, $1,500 PHEV, and $4,000 FCV credits is for those earning between $73,000-$340,000.
So, with the ARB setting the upper limit to those earning up to a third of one-million dollars per year, Tesla is not having its customer base overly targeted. But, those earning more than $340,000 will not be eligible for California rebates.
Underlying these rules is the authority the Air Resources Board has to impose penalties and rewards as it sees appropriate to budge the emissions lower for vehicles sold in state.
Both all-electric cars and hydrogen fuel cell cars are zero-emission vehicles, but FCVs do refuel quicker, and grant longer range in many cases.
A similar rationale by the ARB has been seen for its worthwhile manufacturers more Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) credits for FCVs than EVs.
Toyota MIrai.
This is right even for cars like the 85-kilowatt-hour Tesla Model S which may travel 270 miles, and has a growing arrangement of Supercharger station, and is a state startup, no less. It’s been capped at four ZEV credits while FCVs are eligible for nine.
At the upper limit of EV pricing, Tesla’s nationally available Model S starts at $75,750. A Toyota Mirai, for now existing in only California is to start at $57,500.
Buyers and sellers of FCVs are existing the sweetest carrot on a stab to go FCV by the rule makers in California.
And, now, low-income buyers of cars like the Nissan Leaf may also get up to $3,000 For a Ford C-Max Energi, $4,000 for a Nissan Leaf, or $6,500 for a Mirai.
Whether these amounts will spur sales for these types of vehicles remains to be seen. Since 2010, California has handed out 110,000 rebates to qualifying car buyers.
