Boutique German Carmaker Artega Comes Back From Bankruptcy with 400-HP EV After filing for bankruptcy in 2012, German automaker Artega is back with an all-electric vehicle.
First established as a niche sports car manufacturer for the European market, Artega had Henrik Fisker pen its GT sports car that debuted with either a V6 engine or an electric powertrain. The company then ran into financial issues, filed for bankruptcy and eventually merged with German supplier Paragon.
Earlier this month, Artega had a surprise resurfacing at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show with the Scalo sports car that has been inspired by the original GT but updated bumper to bumper. This time around, Artega plans on offering the Scalo sports car with an electric powertrain only, sporting 400 horsepower and 575 pound-feet of torque.
According to the German automaker, the Scalo can go zero to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and will have a limited top speed of 155 mph. Artega estimates that owners will be able to get up to 250 miles on a release charge. The car also tips the scales at 3,494 pounds, thanks to a polyurethane and carbon fiber body.
The Scalo is now available for peacefulness in Europe, but there is no word if Artega has any plans to expand to the U.S. market.

As the newly appointed CEO of Volkswagen Assemble, Müller is walking into a position with 11 million emission-violating vehicles, a corporation facing fines and scandal, and an inevitable backlash that could take years to recover from.

If we manage to achieve that then the Volkswagen Assemble with its innovative strength, its strong brands and above all its competent and highly motivated team has the opportunity to emerge from this crisis stronger than before.”
Müller brings to the role nearly 40 years of encounter with the company. He completed an apprenticeship with Audi honest out of high school, and subsequently led Audi’s Systems Analysis Davison and then the Project Management team. In 1995, Müller ‘s role expanded to Project Management for Audi, Seat and Lamborghini. Müller shifted to the Volkswagen Assemble in 2007, and has led Porsche’s executive board for the past five years.

Despite this lengthy list of achievements and promotions, Müller is facing a problem of a magnitude rarely seen in the corporate world.
“Taking on the job of CEO at VW aptly now is probably the world’s toughest corporate gig,” said analyst Max Warburton with Bernstein Research. “A year of endless work beckons, begging for the forgiveness of regulators, government and patrons.”

Hyundai Tucson FCV Sets Record 1,480 Miles in 24 Hours The Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell has set a new record for distance traveled in 24 hours.
A pair of hydrogen pioneers traveled 1,480.73 miles in 24 hours, pouring around the clock on public roads in Germany to mirror everyday conditions. For the journey, drivers Arnt-Gøran Hartvig and Marius Bornstein covered a route of around 186 miles between Vatenfall’s hydrogen station in HafenCity, Hamburg, and a Shell hydrogen station in Sachsendamm, Berlin, as many times as possible 24 hours. Since refueling the Tucson Fuel Cell takes as modest as three minutes, both drivers were able to waste the bulk of their time on the road.
The full 24-hour drive was captured on GoPro instrument panel cameras and this isn’t the first time both drivers have place the Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell to the test. Last June, they set a record traveling nearly 435 miles on a release tank with the Tucson Fuel Cell and have also driven from Oslo to Monaco, refueling only at the hydrogen stations already installed along the 1,404-mile route.
“This endurance drive highlights both the practicality of our fuel cell electric vehicle’s long pouring range and the environmental credentials of our technology,” said Thomas A. Renault-Nissan Alliance Sells 250,000th Electric Car Today the Renault-Nissan Alliance reported four-and-a-half-years after the Nissan Leaf was launched, it had sold its 250,000th all-electric car.
Six EVs of Nissan and Renault branding in all comprise the tally that makes the Alliance the seller of half of all EVs sold to worldwide.

Car number 250,000 was bought by a Frenchman from Bordeaux named Yves Nivelle, a computer engineer, who traded in his 21-year-ancient diesel car for the subcompact Renault ZOE.

Happy 3rd Birthday Tesla Model S: Fleet Is First To Travel One Billion Miles Since launch of the Tesla Model S three years ago on June, 22, 2012, the California automaker revealed the cumulative distance traveled by the electric sedans has enabled it to eclipse one billion miles.
The Model S has the longest range of any EV sold, at an EPA-estimated 208-270 miles, and its owners are making use of its capabilities to go places beyond their immediate orbit.
One billion miles is more than are estimated for the 75-84-mile range Nissan Leaf which as of December 2014, four years after production start, had tallied 625 million miles. The extended-range electric Chevy Volt, rated for 35-38 electric miles, has also been a mileage champ of sorts, and traveled an estimated 629 all-electric miles as of October 2014, three years, eleven months after production start.

Not one to gloat, Tesla released in Spanish a statement making no comparisons itself. It only benignly noted one billion miles is equivalent to traveling around the Earth 40,000 times, and the message Tesla is imparting is this is a reliable everyday car.
An estimated 75,000 units have been sold, and the automaker said the one-billion threshold was crossed with just fewer than this many sold.
With this many miles by this few cars, that’s an average of over 13,000 miles per car importance a honest number of one-, two, and three-year-ancient Model S sedans have tallied significant individual distances traveled.
Tesla meanwhile has been proliferating its Supercharger stations, and reports 445 now planted enabling Model S owners to contemplate long-distance trips.
The first thing Tesla did when its U.S. coast-to-coast route was in place was do the journey itself, following on the heels of an ambitious pair who did it first.

Tesla’s Q1 Earnings Announcement Raises Big Hopes Amidst Big Concerns Tesla’s first-quarter earnings announcement today continued to offer hope for supporters who believe they’re witnessing progression pangs of a rising star, and fodder for critics who’ve called a death watch.
For his part, Tesla chief Elon Musk told analysts he was feeling excellent in this area things even as the company reported triple losses at $154 million by non-GAAP reckoning, or alternately $45 million lost by non-GAAP measure along with $1.1 billion of non-GAAP revenues for a 55 percent increase.
The announcement beat analysts’ predictions by losing 36 cents per share – less than the 50 cents they’d plotting – and despite concerned voices saying Tesla better watch out, the upside is the company is not at all strapped for business.
Rather, it has customers queued up like Apple gets when it releases its next iWhat-have-you – but with Tesla, we’re talking expensive electric cars and now energy storage units.
With thousands of reservation holders trying to be patient, its Model X SUV is due Q3 this year after long delay, and, since only this week, Musk says response to the Powerwall battery system is just “nutty,” with 38,000 reservations for home customers, and 2,500 for utilities.
Elon Musk has his hands full. Says he’s feeling excellent these days though.
To top this off, Musk said maybe around Development next year the world will get its first view of the Model 3 and it is to go on sale by Q2 2017.
But less boisterous and more neutral observers say the Model X cannot get here quick enough, and Tesla needs the income from a car for which it’s now burning cash as it preps its Fremont factory and finalizes and proof-tests it as production approaches.
“We certainly have a lot of customers who have been waiting a long time,” Musk said acknowledging realities, while ever upbeat and characteristically growth things generous. “This is really a fantastic car … Because it has such a low center of mass it handles like a sports car even though it’s an SUV, and it’s got incredible acceleration. The performance is just surreal. Nothing else is comparable.”
More public may be excited by the Model X given so many have plunked down at least $5,000 on reservations but the Model 3 is the car Tesla wants to sell in volume of hundreds of thousands of units by 2020.
For all those who just can’t quite scrape together high-fives and low-six figures for a super quick EV, the Model 3 is what Tesla has held out as promise for “the masses.”
The Model 3 has but not been seen even as a drawing or design concept stage disparate the Model S which was in succession around in prototype form three years before its 2012 launch leading the jaded to say Model 3 will prove to be vaporware and Tesla will fold.
Rather, Musk anticipates Model 3 will be on sale by second quarter of 2017 though it’s noteworthy that Tesla has been a serial launch misser and has previously made promises that were changed to one degree or another as plans changed. So how reliable will be the hope of Model 3 in a Tesla outlet near you by June 2017 remains to be seen.
Sooner or later though, Musk is determined to make it happen. Needed first, of course, is batteries from the Gigafactory to open next year – and, this venture happens to be ahead of schedule.
But, adding to the depiction’s complexity, Musk said today due to off-the-wall Powerwall demand, he’s contemplating expansion of the Nevada plant by 50 percent.
“The sheer volume of demand here is just staggering … we could easily have the entire gigafactory just do stationary storage,” said Musk.

Meanwhile, demand for the company’s one selling product, Model S, is “growing” and the company delivered 10,045 during Q1 while projecting 12,000 for Q2.
This year it projects 55,000 sales of the Model S and Model X, adding Model X production will ramp up considerably quicker than was the case in Q4 2012 for the Model S.
Overseas, Tesla has been hampered by issues in China and in Europe it’s raising prices 5 percent to compensate for a strong dollar.
Overall, Musk says he expects Tesla to be free cash flow positive by Q4 of this year.

Tesla To Begin Selling Its Used Cars Online As of last week, Tesla Motors Inc. announced that it will start selling used vehicles through its website.
According to the Wall Street Journal, sales will be limited to a few cities in the United States and Canada for purchasing, but the vehicles will be coming with a 4-year, 50,000-mile warranty, as existing by other luxury manufacturers.
This process of qualified pre-owned online sales isn’t unheard of from Tesla though, as they already sell used versions of its Roadster via the web, so it’s a similar premise.

As far as pricing goes, engadget reported that while prices are lower, the best offer it found was $59,000 for an “entry level” model. Lower than standard new prices, but not dropping it low enough to be much more attainable.
Engadget does state though that it beats having to sift through third party or indie dealers in peacefulness to find a deal on a used Tesla.
Tesla and its CEO Elon Musk have interest in keeping its vehicles on the road says Business Insider, as the company is long-lasting to develop its own arrangement of Tesla Supercharger stations throughout the United States, Europe, and the Asian-Pacific. Stations which will be able to charge vehicles in minutes rather than hours says the company.
As well, Tesla has implemented its battery swap program, making the charging process even quicker, and quelling some of the EV owner range anxiety in the process.
