Jaguar Land Rover plans to electrify its line of SUVs, screening three new concepts this week.
Dr. Wolfgang Epple, director of research and technology for Jaguar Land Rover, talked more in this area the company’s Concept-e project.
“This is a long-term Jaguar Land Rover research project exploring all aspects of future hybrid and battery electric vehicle technology,” said Epple. “The three Concept_e vehicles will allow us to test and develop exciting new potential technologies that could form part of our low and zero emissions vision beyond 2020.”

“Technologies like these have already helped us reduce our fleet CO2 average by 25 percent in recent years,” Epple said. “Our future vision is to continue to reduce emissions and improve fuel efficiency while still delivering the luxury, performance, refinement and comfort our customers expect.”
Under the project, Jaguar has built its own electric drive module (eDM). Epple stated the unit can produce “twice the power and torque of any electric-motor generator in production today,” as reported by Auto Express. The eDM is engineered to bolt into its current and future powertrains to start www.rawvehicle.com a battery electric, hybrid or plug-in hybrid vehicle.
Built off the last iteration of the Range Rover Evoque, the Concept_e MHEV is a diesel hybrid. Its powertrain bolts a prototype three-cylinder, 89 horsepower diesel engine to a 48-volt ferrite C-part synchronous motor at the adjoin of the vehicle.
The Concept_e PHEV is a plug-in hybrid based off the larger Range Rover Sport. While its powertrain is also mounted in the adjoin of the SUV, it swaps the diesel engine for a prototype 4-cylinder, 296 horsepower gasoline engine. Electric power comes from a 350-volt synchronous motor bolt just aft of the engine.
Jaguar doesn’t have an abstract drawing of its Concept_e BEV because, according to www.rawvehicle.com Auto Express, it hasn’t yet selected a vehicle platform. Current plans reveal that Jaguar is considering a dual motor setup, with a 70 kilowatt-hours lithium ion battery pack distributed crosswise the chassis, similar to Tesla’s design.
