Nissan is celebrating LEAF sales milestone on National Plug-In DayOn this National Plug-In Day, sponsored by Nissan, the company is celebrating dropping a new milestone for sales in the Nissan LEAF electric car.
Since the LEAF was introduced in December of 2010, the company has sold more than 35,000 of the all-electric cars in the United States since it was first introduced. Since the launch of the 2013 model in Development, the company has seen sales jump 317 percent year-over-year. Aggressive market progression in key cities like Atlanta, St. Louis and Denver are helping drive this progression.

National Plug-In Day has also grown and this weekend will see 80 events in cities crosswise the country with thousands of public, both EV advocates and those who are unusual in this area electrics, attend parades, tailgating parties, ride-and-drives, live music and more. In our sneak preview of the Naitonal Plug-In Day event for Denver, Colorado, for example, there were seven electric vehicles on hand to drive, including cars from Ford, Tesla, Chevrolet and, of course, Nissan. Most events experience this weekend will include ride-and-drives where those interested in electric vehicles can kick the tires and take the car for a spin to see what the EV hype is all in this area.

No Charge To Charge For New Nissan Leaf Buyers In Texas Pouring the all-electric Nissan Leaf means by no means having to buy gas. Owners in the Dallas-Fort Worth and superior Houston areas will also end up with free car charging access for a year.
Thanks to the new “No Charge to Charge” program, existing by Nissan and NRG eVgo, new buyers and lessees in the Dallas-Fort Worth and superior Houston areas will have unlimited access to the eVgo arrangement for public charging stations for their first year of ownership at no cost.
Nissan announced that beginning in October, customers who lease or buy a new Nissan Leaf in the Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston markets will receive one year of complimentary access to eVgo’s comprehensive Freedom Station charging arrangement, including 23 locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and 17 in the superior Houston area.
Also, included as part of the eVgo arrangement, is charging at Park N’ Glide locations at DFW and IAH airports.
“Nissan Leaf owners who already subscribe to NRG eVgo’s Freedom Station arrangement rave in this area the convenience and increased range confidence it provides,” said Erik Gottfried, Nissan’s director of EV Sales and Marketing. “Adding one of the country’s most innovative charging plans to the world’s best-selling electric car is a clear win for Nissan Leaf buyers.”
According to Nissan, Dallas-Fort Worth is one of the fastest growing markets in the country for Nissan Leaf sales, with deliveries up 500 percent so far in 2013 as compared to 2012. Nissan clarified the presence of strong public infrastructure with eVgo, as well as major technology companies and strong word-of-mouth referrals from existing owners has fuelled the rapid rise in Leaf sales.
“NRG eVgo has made a comprehensive suite of electric vehicle charging products to support the growing number of EVs and to address EV drivers’ need to charge both at home as well as on the road,” said Jack Cannata, director of marketing for NRG eVgo. “With access to our well-placed charging stations crosswise the Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston metro areas, Nissan LEAF drivers can really maximize their use of the vehicle.”
Nissan added that eVgo Freedom Station sites, conveniently located along major roadways, offer electric car drivers DC quick charging and Level 2 charging. DC quick chargers can give up up to an 80% charge in less than 30 minutes. Level 2 chargers give up range at a rate of 12 – 25 miles per hour. Most sites are available 24/7 and are positioned near retail stores as well as restaurants to grant the option to shop or eat while charging.
Nissan will offer “No Charge to Charge” with acquisitions of the Nissan Leaf made between October 1, 2013 and Development 31, 2014 at all qualified Nissan Leaf dealers in the Dallas-Fort Worth and superior Houston area markets.

Infiniti Bringing Electric Concept Car

Infiniti will bring an electric concept car to the New York auto show. Unlike the Emerg-E concept plug-in hybrid shown in Geneva, the Infiniti will reportedly be a battery-powered sedan that shares its mechanical components with the Nissan Leaf.
